Rotana has launched three television channels for the Indonesian market including a religious channel, a general entertainment channel and one for Arabic movies. The launch coincided with Saudi King, Salman Bin Abdel Aziz Al Saoud’s recent visit to Indonesia, as part of his Asia tour.
The launch marks Rotana’s first venture in the world’s largest Muslim country by population, the Saudi Arabia-based media company said in a statement.
The three channels are being launched in partnership with “Lightning” and distributed via SMV Free Cable.
The preparations for the launch have been ongoing for some time, Rotana said, with the announcement made on the day the Saudi king landed in Indonesia.
“These channels will cater to the Indonesian population in addition to the resident Arabs (through) a bouquet of programmes… some will be in Arabic, while others will be dubbed into Indonesian and English (languages),” Rotana said in a statement.
